David Goligorsky

Sr. Design Director

David Goligorsky is a Sr. Design Director at IDEO New York focused on Digital & Emerging Technology. He has a background in Aerospace Engineering and has worked in advanced R&D before pursuing a graduate degree in Product Design at Stanford University. David had previously worked at IDEO Cambridge leading project teams and lecturing on Design, Manufacturing, and Strategy at Harvard, Yale, and other institutions. Before making a return to IDEO, David spent several years running Design at a Google Ventures portfolio startup in the mobile media space and then as a private practice, working with startups on all aspects of Design and Product at their organizations. Clients included Artsy, Sonder, Octave, and others. David is keen to help individuals and organization in balancing culture and creativity with technology and commerce.

Vik Parthiban

Researcher

Vik Parthiban is passionate about teams and technologies that shape how people interact with digital information and the physical world. He helped build the Magic Leap One AR headset released in December 2017 and led an R&D project for the advanced photonics team. Currently a researcher and graduate student at the MIT Media Lab, Vik is building new human-computer interfaces and holographic technology that hope to push AR/VR technology forward.

Casey Pugh

Head of Creator Labs

Casey Pugh is an Emmy-winning creative technologist immersed in the online video industry for the past 11 years. As Head of Creator Labs at Vimeo, Casey leads the vision, strategy and execution for pushing the video platform beyond its existing storytelling boundaries. In 2009, he created Star Wars Uncut, a crowd-sourced remake of classic Star Wars movies that won a 2010 Primetime Emmy. Casey was an early employee of Vimeo and co-founder of VHX, a technology solution for creators building and distributing premium over-the-top (OTT) video channels, which was acquired by Vimeo in May 2016.

Jonathan Linowes

Founder/CEO

Jonathan is a VR/AR evangelist, Unity developer, entrepreneur, and teacher. His company, Parkerhill Reality Labs, is an immersive media indie studio and developer of the BridgeXR toolkit, Power Solitaire VR game, and other projects. Jonathan holds an MS degree from the MIT Media Lab, a BFA degree from Syracuse University, and held technical leadership positions at Autodesk and other companies. He is author of books including 'Unity Virtual Reality Projects' (second edition June 2018) and 'Augmented Reality for Developers' (2017).

Lisa Tacoronte

Business Designer

Lisa Tacoronte is a Business Designer at IDEO, where she designs and prototypes creative, new entrepreneurial ventures founded on human needs. She hails from IDEO coLab where she explored the potential for emerging technology to create impact on social systems through interactive prototypes.

Mona Hakky

Design Director, Native App/AR/VR

With foundation rooted in Architecture, Mona’s passion for human-centered design connecting digital & physical environments has been a life-long passion. With over 16 years of experience working in the digital space across multiple industries, she had the opportunity to leverage mobile & emerging technologies to drive innovative thinking in retail, healthcare, travel, automotive, and sports. Mona now leads design for native App & AR/VR at Wayfair.

Yasaman Sheri

Creative Director

Yasaman Sheri is a designer and creative director who works with sensing and perception. She has led design interactions at Microsoft Hololens Operating System team for 5 years designing interfaces using gesture, machine vision and spacial interactions. Her work with Mixed Reality has inspired her to expand sensory interactions designing for the "other senses" in sound, haptics and smell and the design of perception. These explorations have led her to collaborations with Toyota, Mozilla XR Studio, Google (X), Sissel Tolaas, Yeast Lab. Yasaman is also an educator, teaching Sensory Design at Copenhagen Institute for Interaction Design and graduate studies at RISD. She is also frequent visiting lecturer at Art Center College of Design, Columbia GSAPP and Stanford.

ildar iakubov

Prof.

Ildar is an artist and educator from Saint Petersburg, where he curates one of the Russia’s biggest Art&Science festivals and manages local planetarium with a huge 37-meter projection dome of an enormous 12K resolution. He teaches Digiatal Art, VR and Interactive Media in different universities around the globe and also creates his own artworks - installations, live performances, VR environments.

Alexander Chou

Software Engineer

Alex is a senior software engineer at Wayfair, leading a team that builds a 3D room planning tool on the web. He's particularly excited about the opportunities WebVR opens up to make apps of today fully immersive. Alex is also an alumnus from Brown University where he studied computer science and economics.

Since 1996, I have spent the majority of my career wearing many different hats from a LAMP developer to team leader to as Chief Executive Officer of River Studios. In 2017, I was hand-picked by the executive leadership of River Ecosystem to not only bring upon the rebirth of River Studios, but to serve as the catalyst of elevating VR/AR content including our flagship product Quarterback Snap. My technical background, being a full stack engineer and avid multi stack developer allows me a unique insight in which I understand the potential and limitations of technologies from an engineering level that few other futurists without such technical experience can match.

Patrick Clark

For the past three years, I've worked at Wayfair on various projects that include automated photogrammetry, rendered 3D imagery, and realtime 3D for VR/AR/XR on the Magic Leap, Holo Lens, Vive, and more. Previously, I spent nearly a decade at Rockstar Games where I worked on the art, and technical performance, of games such as Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2. I specialize in 3D content production for rendered and realtime applications.

Caglar Yildirim

Assistant Professor of Human Computer Interaction

Caglar Yildirim, PhD is a human-computer interaction (HCI) expert, specializing in the cognitive aspects of HCI and the design and evaluation of usable immersive interfaces and interactions for virtual reality (VR). As an assistant professor of HCI at SUNY Oswego, Caglar directs the VR First Lab, where he conducts research into human factors aspects of VR and 3D interaction, VR gaming user experience, and mindfulness training in VR. Caglar also teaches various courses in the HCI Master’s program, including Virtual Reality, Human-Centered Design, Human Factors, and Applied Research Methods and Statistics.

Liz Lehtonen

Liz has 7 years of Product experience which she compliments with 5 years in design. She specializes in customer focused innovation, team building & solving problems. As the Senior Product Manager for XR technology at Wayfair, she is responsible for the camera based buying experience. Before moving to Boston, she ran the world building team for Game of the Year 2014 (Dragon Age: Inquisition) and gameplay team for Anthem at BioWare in Canada. Earlier, she was a game designer in Oxford UK for Sony & EA, and started her career at a 10 employee startup called Rovio in Finland.

Jesse McCulloch

Jesse McCulloch is a Mixed Reality Developer Relations Program Manager at Microsoft. Starting as a Mixed Reality Developer in 2016, he built up a strong community around HoloLens and Immersive Headsets, and then joined Microsoft in 2018. This gives him a very unique perspective and strong desire to advocate strongly for the developers who are supporting the platform. He is often found hanging out in the HoloDevelopers Slack group, and on Twitter trying to keep up with everything going on in this rapidly growing space.

Ron Rosenman

15+ years designing and building products, services, tools, and simulations; weaving storytelling, software development, and product design principles across ideation, research, and engineering activities. Gergely Kis

Shuya Gong

Shuya Gong is a designer at IDEO CoLab, where she explores the intersection of emerging technology and system shifts to design the future. The CoLab brings together companies excited to create impact on the world through collaboration and enabling technology. With a background in mechanical engineering, Shuya spends a lot of her time in the workshop, going back and forth between 2D and 3D spaces. She's particularly interested in how new interfaces augment the way we experience the world around us, and believes that visual stimuli is just a peek of how virtual and augmented reality will change our sensory experience of the world.

Xin Liu

Xin Liu (b. 1991, Xinjiang/China) is an artist and engineer, whose research-based projects range from performances, apparatus, installations to scientific experiments and academic papers. She is the the Arts Curator in Space Exploration Initiative in MIT Media Lab and a member of New INC in New Museum. She is recipient of numerous awards and residencies, including the Van Lier Fellowship from Museum of Arts and Design, Huayu Youth Award Finalist, Queens Museum studio program and Pioneer Works Tech Residency. Her projects have received awards in SXSW, FastCoDesign, Core77 and her academic publications were nominated for best papers in ACM conferences. She has shown her work internationally at events and venues including Ars Electronica, Boston MFA, Sundance Film Festival, The Walker Art Center, OCAT Shanghai, ISEA and Music Tech Festival Berlin. As a researcher, Xin has worked in institutions including Microsoft Research NYC & Asia and Google ATAP.

Jasmine Roberts

Jasmine is a researcher, engineer and designer currently working as a software engineer on the Authoring Tools Group in Unity Labs. Previously, Jasmine was a graduate student studying in Cambridge at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and MIT Media Lab. Additionally Jasmine holds degrees in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering. Her research centers on emotion and perception in spatial computing and identity representation in virtual human avatars.

Kat Schneider is an architect and UI/UX Designer with a deep research interest in computational design and VR/AR. Scott J Slagsvol

Scott Slagsvol is a Senior Interaction and Communications Designer at IDEO Boston, where his unique blend of traditional graphic and digital skills serve as a bridge between the physical and digital worlds of design. Scott earned his BFA in Graphic Design from Rochester Institute of Technology. His work has been awarded by London International Awards, AICP Awards, OMMA, MITX, and Hatch. He has also had work featured in Creativity, AdWeek, and Communication Arts.

Ralph Bishop

Ralph is a veteran product designer who loves to bring a sense of play to his work. He is currently a Design Director at GIPHY contributing to the overall UX on many products. He also leads an internal team called Arts & Crafts which focuses on creating experimental products using new and emerging tech such as AR and VR. His teams work includes the recently released GIPHY World VR, GIPHY Cam, GIPHY Says and GIPHY Booth. In a previous life he also worked at MTV designing the backstage live stream experience for the VMAs and a few snowboards for Rome SDS.

Bruno Olmedo

Bruno Olmedo is a Design Researcher at IDEO Cambridge, where his passion to understand people drives him to take on any challenge with a human-centered approach. Bruno’s curious, collaborative, and energetic spirit brings a contagious energy to identifying user needs, problem-solving, and communicating user insights through stories. Bruno has a specific interest in making emerging technologies more human, enabling faster, positive impact in the world.

Adrien Meriaux

Adrien Meriaux has been a software developer for 15 years. He has been working on all the popular platforms and programming languages mostly to solve GIS (Geographical Information System) problems. For the past 4 years he has been working on AR VR experiences for GIS. He was one of the first to enable GIS experience inside the HoloLens and is now working on sets of APIs to let developers create their own experiences.

Louis DeScioli

Louis is a designer and engineer at Google Daydream working to bring augmented and virtual reality to the masses. He got his start in VR and AR at this very hackathon and is excited to return as a mentor and pay it forward. Before entering the immersive industry, he was making smart indoor aquaponic gardens at Grove and autism therapy applications at Sidekicks. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, and is on a mission to help bring people closer together to each other, their communities, and the natural world.

Anish Dhesikan

Anish Dhesikan is a Software Engineer at Google Daydream VR/AR. He is an avid hacker, having attended over 10 hackathons and winning awards at several, including the Grand Prize at the 2016 Reality Virtually Hackathon. Anish holds a degree in Computer Science and Game Design from Northeastern University. During his studies, he also co-founded 2 startups, Coresights and Subconscious, leading their technology teams. With the Reality Virtually Hackathon helping to launch his VR/AR career, he is excited to return as a mentor to share his knowledge and experience.

Christopher Fridlington

Christopher is a senior at New Hampton School. He has a creative approach to technology and is interested in how it can enrich our world through human-centered interfaces. Marty Markenson

Marty Markenson is a product manager for PTC's augmented reality authoring tool Vuforia Studio. His journey into immersive technologies started with an Oculus DK1 demo at the South by South West conference. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering he lead prize winning hackathon teams on projects including a VR periodic table and a math based game set in an asteroid field. Today Marty is excited to share his knowledge from 4 years in the AR/VR industry with the Reality Virtually Hackathon community.

Raphael Grossman, MD, FACS

Dr. Rafael Grossmann is a full-time general, trauma, advanced laparoscopic, and robotic surgeon. Originally from Venezuela and trained as a surgeon in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he has practiced in the US for several years. He is deeply interested in the intersection of Innovation Technology in Healthcare and Medical Education. He is also an avid blogger, Healthcare Social Media user, global and TEDx speaker. It was at Exponential Medicine (FutureMed 2013)/Singularity University where his vision of a future, exponentially better care began to crystallize. He became one of the early GoogleGlass Explorers in the world, in early 2013 and was the first doctor to ever use Google Glass during live surgery. Being a healthcare futurist and a telemedicine-mHealth innovator, he is a strong believer on the power of technology to better connect providers and patients. He is convinced that innovation in healthcare technology along with the current developments in mobile and wearable platforms, AI and deep learning will exponentially disrupt and improve healthcare connectivity, communication and data flow and management, and result in a more efficient, intuitive, less expensive, and ultimately better patient care.

Kate Donovan, PhD, MBA, MS

Dr. Kate Donovan is the Clinical Director of Immersive Technologies for the Innovation Digital Health Accelerator at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is also the Innovation Technology Coordinator for Medicine Patient Services at Boston Children’s Hospital and co-founder of Hacking Pediatrics, an annual pediatric focused healthcare hackathon held in Boston. Donovan is a serial idea generator and has a deep interest in exploring pain points to help deliver enchanting solutions to improve the patient and family experience as well as operational efficiency for clinicians. She has been instrumental in bringing immersive technologies to Boston Children’s Hospital and has been creating and designing solutions as well as researching its use with the pediatric patient population for the past 4 years. Donovan has focused her most recent clinical research in the digital health arena where she has studied the validity of wearables, clinical adoption and use of virtual reality and augmented reality and the use of voice technology in the pediatric clinical environment. She is also a member of VR-CORE, an international committee of Virtual Reality – Clinical Outcomes Research Experts who are working together to create guidelines for future VR clinical trials.

Brett Phares

Founder/CxO

A survivor of RVH2017, Brett Phares is an artist and curator working in immersive art and the built environment. With 20+ years in interactive media, he has created innovative projects for both startups and international brands. He has exhibited internationally, curates an annual immersive art festival called Digital Graffiti (Smithsonian named it one of top five immersive art experiences in the world) and is primary instigator of General Anxiety llc, a digital art consultancy.

Jeffrey Jacobson

Jeffrey brings over 25 years of experience in research, engineering, and applications of virtual and mixed reality technology. With a doctorate in Information Science from PITT, Jeff is expert on how people process information. He was one of the first researchers to use game technology for VR, conduct learning experiments in VR, and use AR in museums and educational theater. He consulted for years into several industries, especially education, architecture, construction, transportation, and medicine. Today, he is the SimEngineering Project Manager at SIMPeds, where he prototypes new training tools, oversees production of (XR) solutions at the simulation center, and investigates XR for medical training and treatment.

John Phi La

IULIAN RADU

Iulian is a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, currently researching AR/VR for science education, maker spaces, empathy and bias understanding.
